Frequently Asked Questions

Which of Our Oil Spill Containment Products Is Right for You? Start Here.

How do I know which size of Well Site Guard unit to order?
  • We build our standard oil spill containment products to match these common sizes:  View Common Sizes
  • Most installations attach to the pumping tee or BOP. Measure the top OD of your tee. Specify your pumping tee size. View Sizing Guide
  • Provide the polished rod diameter: 1-1/4” or 1-1/2”.
What electrical requirements do the units meet?
  • The units come standard with a Murphy L971 Series float level switch.
    • Switch Rating: 4 A at 250 VAC or 120 VAC
  • You can add an SOR INC Ultrasonic 701 level switch as an option.
    • Available in 120 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz and 24 VDC
Do I need to hire an installation crew?
  • Not necessarily. Well Site Guard oil spill containment products install easily in the field – a major advantage over our competitors’ products. You don’t need any special tools or equipment for installation.
  • We recommend that two people install the unit. However, one person alone will have no problem installing Well Site Guard.
  • The unit installs in 15 to 20 minutes on average. Watch our installation video to see how.

How long have you been producing oil spill containment products?
  • We began developing Well Site Guard in 2009 after seeing the need for a quality oil leak and spill containment unit.
  • We field tested our oil spill containment products in late 2010 and early 2011.
  • We sold the first units in Canada in 2011 and the first units in the United States in summer 2012. In our first four years, we sold more than 4,000 units across North America.
How long will Well Site Guard last?
  • Well Site Guard units installed in 2011 continue operating today with no issues. With normal care and attention, they will last indefinitely.
  • You can remove and reinstall units on any same-size pumping tee with no issues. Remember to place removed clear tops in a safe place during well servicing.
Where can I buy units?
  • You’ll find Well Site Guard at most major and medium-sized oilfield supply and service centers throughout the oil and gas-producing regions of North America.

Can I add the new Rain Guard kit and Integrated Lubrication Line to my older units?
  • Yes, we have retrofit kits for Rain Guard and the Integrated Lube Line. All new Well Site Guard units include Rain Guard and one Integrated Lube Line installed. If needed, you can install a second Integrated Lube Line.
How do your products stand up to weather?
  • Our products withstand extreme weather issues, from units installed in the far north of Canada down to the US Gulf states. However, when it is -40° C outside, everything needs to be handled with a little more care – including yourself! We recommend site insulation and proper extreme-weather protection for your team.
Is your product competitive on quality, price and ease of installation?
  • Quality: Our competitors have adopted many of our ideas and innovations into their newest product offerings.
  • Price: Well Site Guard features competitive product pricing, though items may seem higher-priced in the quote stage. The value of our products far outweighs any differences in cost. You can remove and reinstall our units an unlimited number of times with no loss of function, and our patented urethane surfaces seal completely for years of trouble-free service.
  • Ease of installation: Our oil spill containment products come assembled and ready to install in the field. It takes at most 20 minutes, from opening the shipping box to installing on the stuffing box, to get your pump jack back up and producing. While one person can install Well Site Guard units, our competitors’ products require at least two installers. Our competitors’ products also require further assembly of all the accessory fitting’s valves and float switches. We use only 316-SS fittings, valves and mounting bolts, which remain totally H2S and corrosion resistant. In contrast, our competitors use black pipe fittings and off-the-shelf valves.
